“”Fool (If You Think It’s Over)” – Chris Rea – FRANKS BASS COVERS

Released: July 1978 from the album “Whatever Happened to Benny Santini?”

The Song:
“Fool (If You Think It’s Over)” was the lead single from Rea’s debut album “Whatever Happened to Benny Santini?”
I am sure some story exists for the naming of this album but it really is not the most memorable title.

The song’s inspiration was the experience Rea’s younger sister Paula had had some years previously of being devastated at losing her first boyfriend

Originally intended to be written for Al Green and performed as an R & B

In 1978, Chris Rea contemplated giving up his struggling singing career during an overnight drive home from London during the Yuletide season. He considered returning to his family’s restaurant business.

However, when he and his wife Joan arrived at their Middlesbrough home in the early morning, they found it bitterly cold, and there was one letter on the floor.

Inside the letter was a significant royalty check from his song “Fool,” which allowed him to purchase a Ferrari 308 GT4, ultimately changing his career trajectory.
